In this lesson, we take a look at I Corinthians 10:8-9. Each verse begins with our phrase "let us". As with our other passages, we need to read much more than these two verses to understand what is being taught.
Take the time to read and study I Corinthians 8, 9, and 10. Decide for yourself what Paul is teaching in those three chapters and why it was necessary. Have you ever wondered why all that "stuff" in the Old Testament is part of the Bible? Why should we care? Is it important, or just some boring history? Hey, we can't even pronounce (or spell) many of the names we find there!

Of course we know that the Old Testament is for our learning and example. We see time after time the Israelites , Gods chosen people, following his commands and then drift away. He is always waiting for their return and is faithful to restore them to his fold.
ReplyDeletePaul, in I Corinthians 8, 9 and 10, is encouraging us to watch out for our brothers/sisters who are weak. Even though Paul says that we have this freedom in Christ , we should be careful how we conduct our lives as we associate with our new brothers and sisters in Christ. We do not want to become a stumbling block to them.
Question: How do we do that? Paul says that to the Jews he became as a Jew, to win the Jews. To ones not having the law, he became like them, to the weak he became weak. He became all things to win them to the gospel. What do we have to do to win souls to the gospel?
